Annually, on the anniversary of the destruction of the Riga ghetto, the Council of Jewish Communities of Latvia holds a commemorative event in Rumbula. There was no public event this year due to restrictions in an emergency.
Оn 30 November the leadership of the Jewish community laid flowers at the Rumbula memorial. The ceremony was joined by the Head of the Chancery of the President of Latvia Andris Teikmanis, Defence Minister Artis Pabriks, Head of the Latvian Delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Einars Mikelsons, Ambassador of Israel Orli Gil, Ambassador of Germany Christian Heldt, Ambassador of U.S. John Carwile and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador of the UAE Hanan Khalfan Al Aleeli.
In the evening, commemorating more than 25,000 Jews shot in the Rumbula forest on 30 November and 8 December, 1941, people lit candles at the Freedom Monument.
