? We invite you to join us for an exciting online event “The role of Jews in Latvian cinema” on Wednesday 17 November at 18:30 on Zoom.
❓ How have Jewish roles and subjects changed in Latvian cinema?❓ How extensively was the Jewish theme addressed in Latvian cinema?
❓ Does the representation of Jewish characters in cinema allow us to infer who the Jews really were in Latvian culture?
These are just some of the questions that we will explore during the lecture together with Elīna Vasiļjeva – Doctor of Philology, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Daugavpils University and Professor of Russian and Slavic Studies. Her research interests include the study of Jewish texts in European culture and Latvian literature, Jewish culture in Latgale and Daugavpils, and intercultural relations.
The event is organised within the framework of the Jewish Community of Riga project “Maor” with the support of the “Uniting History” Foundation. The project offers a programme in Latvian, which allows you to learn more about Jewish traditions and history, get to know your Jewish roots and meet interesting people.
See you there!
